Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Final Rule – Intentional Adulteration
Intentional adulteration (IA) is a relatively new concern. It differs from ‘fraudulent’ adulteration in that its intent is not economic gain but rather to cause widespread harm. It is a growing concern for food safety bodies. To counter this threat, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has added to the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) a new rule to help safeguard against IA.
