Real-Life Applications Of Risk-Based Thinking In ISO 9001:2015

An organisation that effectively adopts risk-based thinking (RBT) will be better able to manage and cope with uncertainty and its potential negative consequences.

It will also improve its ability to identify and exploit the business benefits that will result from better management of defined opportunities.

ISO 9001 is based on the plan-do-check-act (PDCA) management cycle. We suggest that, when designing a quality management system (QMS), organisations consider combining the RBT and PDCA approaches.

This will not only ensure conformity to the standard, it is also an avenue for continuous improvement by applying targeted preventive measures to deliver better results.
