Creating tangible opportunities for Indigenous businesses

19 March 2025, Sydney: Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, has announced its membership with Supply Nation, illustrating its commitment to supplier diversity.

Supply Nation is Australia’s leader in supplier diversity and custodian of the largest database of verified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses, Indigenous Business Direct, which has over 5,500 businesses listed. Supply Nation has over 800 members, representing the corporate, government and non-profit sectors.

Intertek is committed to reconciliation in Australia and is currently in the first (or ‘Reflect’) phase of its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). This membership with Supply Nation contributes towards increased opportunities for First Nations-owned businesses and creates procurement opportunities to diversify Intertek’s supply chain.

Supporting Indigenous communities is another step in adopting responsible business practices which extend beyond regulatory compliance. In addition to working with Reconciliation Australia to develop its Reflect RAP, Intertek is helping to increase Indigenous employment opportunities by participating in the Yirra Yaakiny program, hosted by Workskil Australia. In 2024, the company made job offers to 14 job seekers, and aim to increase this to 25 in 2025.

Intertek also worked with the following organisations and Supply Nation verified Indigenous businesses during 2024: Indigenous Managed Services, Kulbardi, PACM Electrical, Spartan First and TQCS International.

Spartan Health, which specialises in medical, occupational health and dental services in Western Australia, has been one of Intertek’s key health suppliers over the last two years. Their team has shared that “Spartan First have been working with Intertek for the last few years to support its team to stay in optimum health by providing occupational health and safety services. We are a proud First Nations business and are creating sustainable job opportunities for our team.”
