Australian Catholic Anti-Slavery Network take part in the latest Social Compliance training

Intertek SAI Global hosted the team at Australian Catholic Anti-Slavery Network last month for the newly updated course in social compliance auditing.

This training created an opportunity to dive into the ethical considerations facing businesses today. Initiating important conversations to explore how businesses can expand their ethical approach across their operations. Inviting participant to go beyond compliance into the realm of social responsibility and social compliance. Discussions expand into the ethical impacts on people, across the supply chain, with investors and consumers.

One way that companies assess and monitor their business ethics is through social compliance audits. These are instrumental in ensuring the company and the entire value chain are adhering to socially responsible practices, which offers increased visibility into business ethics reporting for customers and the general public.

Social compliance auditing is important for businesses to operate ethically. Approximately 50 million people globally, or one in every 150 are in situations of modern slavery, according to the International Labour Organisation and the 2023 Global Slavery Index estimates that on any given day in 2021, there were 41,000 individuals living in modern slavery in Australia. Migrant workers are more than three times more likely to be in forced labour than non-migrant workers.

Regulation is driving a requirement for businesses to know the risks associated with social human rights in their supply chain and ensure they are undertaking due diligence to mitigate these risks.

The team at Intertek SAI Global were approached by ACAN, to host training for their team to boost their skills in social compliance auditing.

Increasing the number of professionals with social compliance skills

To address this global issue, the Compliance Practitioners Initiative aim to train people with the skills to confidently navigate these challenges. The team have developed and approved training courses to set industry benchmarks for social compliance audits.

Intertek SAI Global have launched the CPI Social Compliance Auditing training to help auditing professionals expand their knowledge on Social Compliance Audits (SCA), which are becoming more important in the global supply chain arena.

This course has been developed with a focus on Social Compliance Audits (SCA), and has been approved by the Compliance Practitioners Initiative (CPI), to meet global industry standards and regulations. It provides a set of skills for practitioners to evaluate corporate social responsibility issues systematically and holistically.
