Why RSPO?

The sourcing methods for Palm Oil impacts the sustainability of eco-systems, economic development and the well-being of milliongs of people.

With over 50 million tonnes produced each year, Palm oil can be found in 40-50% of Australian houshold products.

The roundtable of sustainable palm oil’s mission is to make sustainable palm oil the norm, with desicion makers spanning across growers, processors and traders, manufactuerers, environmental and social NGOs, banks and investors, and retailers.

RSPO Supply Chain Certification is an independent chain of custody certification which aims to prove that palm oil has been acquired in a sustainable and ethical way.
RSPO Supply Chain Certification (SCC)

The RSPO Supply Chain Certification Standard outlines the auditable requirements used by organisations in the palm oil supply chain to demonstrate systems for control of RSPO-certified palm oil products.

 

There are three RSPO approved supply chain models that may be applied to your business:

  • Identity assured that applies to RSPO certified oil palm product delivered to the end user is uniquely identifiable to a single RSPO certified mill and its certified supply base.
  • Segregated that applies to RSPO certified oil palm products delivered to the end user only from RSPO certified sources.
  • Mass balance that allows certified claims to be transferred from one oil palm product to another either through physical blending or administratively under strictly controlled circumstances. This is the most common supply model used.
Trademarks/Claims

Having certification throughout the supply chain demonstrating use of sustainable palm oil allows companies to apply for the palm oil trademark and/or claim the use of certified palm oil which provides evidence to customers of their business’ commitment to their sustainability agenda.
